Dolce & Gabbana: “MOSAICO SARTORIALE”

Ispirazione

Inspiration
Return to tailoring, to the decor, to craftsmanship. Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana for this collection were inspired by the mosaics of the "city of Monreale" (Palermo), who begins to become important with the arrival of the Normans in Sicily around the eleventh century. The Monreale Cathedral, dedicated to Santa Maria Nuova, was built between 1172 and 1185 at the behest of the Norman King William II d'Altavilla, along with the Archbishop's Palace and the beautiful cloister. In the upper part of the walls were made, between the late 1100s and mid-1200s, a series of mosaics on a gold background, in which two boxes represent William II crowned by Christ and William II offering the church to the Virgin.
To achieve these splendid works were called local workers, skilled Byzantine and Venetian blinds. Dolce & Gabbana has taken advantage of the ability of artisans of the highest level to achieve the mosaics on shoes, clothing, jewelry and handbags.                                                                                                           Mosaic is an art as well as the slow and precise made of small pieces, so the tailoring is made of point after point. The mosaic becomes synonymous with haute couture, luxury, uniqueness and craftsmanship of the highest level.
